DETAILED
ITINERARY
Day 1. Fly to Mexico
Board your flight to Mexico City. After clearing
customs, you’ll be met by your Tour Director,
who will escort you to your hotel. You’ll
have the rest of the day to unpack, settle in
and begin your explorations of Mexico City.
Day
2. Mexico City
Begin your tour at the Zócalo, Mexico’s
City’s main square and former heart of the
Aztec empire. Enter the patio of the National
Palace to see Diego Rivera’s murals, which
chart Mexico’s history. Upon exiting, look
for the Bell of Dolores, once rung to inspire
the Mexican people to fight for their independence.
Also step inside the Metropolitan Cathedral for
a view of the Altar of the Kings. Then, venture
into Chapultepec Park and visit the National Museum
of Anthropology, a showcase for a vast collection
of Mexico’s most important ancient treasures.
Later, join an optional excursion to Xochimilco,
the legendary Floating Gardens. In the days of
the Aztecs, most of the area surrounding Mexico
City was a lake. As land was scarce, people planted
fruits and vegetables on top of floating rafts.
Today the rafts no longer float, but you can opt
to take a gondola ride down the canals and listen
to mariachi bands along the way.
Day
3. Teotihuacan
An included excursion today takes you to the Shrine
of Our Lady of Guadalupe, built on the site where
a peasant had a vision of the Virgin in 1531.
Then continue on to the awe-inspiring pyramids
of Teotihuacan, built more than 2000 years ago
and later inhabited by the Aztecs who gave the
area its name (meaning “Place of the Gods”).
Traverse the Avenue of the Dead and climb the
Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, architectural feats
complemented by the surrounding mountains. Travel
back to Mexico City. On your free evening, join
an optional excursion to the Ballet Folklórico,
a dazzling performance of music and dance.
Day
4. Cuernavaca – Taxco
First stop today is Cuernavaca, a town famous
for its year-round spring-like climate. A professional
guide leads a sightseeing tour of the city’s
cathedral, one of the oldest in Mexico. Continue
on to the mountainside town of Taxco, a traditional,
charming, well preserved and one of Mexico's most
loved colonial towns, which is also best known
world-wide for its silver. On a walking tour of
the town center, visit the baroque pink-stoned
Church of Santa Prisca. You’ll then have
free time to browse the numerous silver shops.
Day
5. Acapulco.
Today’s journey takes you to the warm Pacific
beaches of Acapulco, where mountains meet the
sea, creating the breathtaking setting which has
made this resort legendary. After checking in
to your hotel, you’ll have a free afternoon
to relax by the sea or explore the surroundings.
Day
6. Yacht Cruise – Cliff Diver Show.
This morning, opt for a relaxing Yacht cruise
on the bay introducing you to Acapulco’s
colonial history dating back to the 1500’s.
This evening, you’ll watch daredevil divers
plunge 130 feet into the surf from the heights
of the famous cliffs of La Quebrada.
